Prior to Pitch Perfect, there was Indiana University's favorite a capella group - Straight No Chaser. After a decade-old performance of theirs went viral on YouTube, the guys found themselves signed to a major label.

Glaser and Straight No Chaser share managers, but she hadn’t heard of the group before being invited on the tour.

When the manager presented it the music to her, “I was like, ‘Eh, I don’t know much about a cappella music,’” she says. “It’s so different from me. But I checked it out, and they’re frickin’ awesome. Their show is so entertaining.”

Dan: Putting the first SNC special together was the most challenging thing I’ve ever done in the music business. I think I have a good understanding of the hard work that’s involved on and off stage to pull something like this off. You can’t cut corners.

That’s true even in the face of a newish mainstream a cappella boom, spearheaded by groups like Straight No Chaser, which released its fourth album on Atlantic this week. As it happens, the members of Straight No Chaser sat conspicuously at a front table during this set; their new album, “Under the Influence,” was produced by Mark Kibble.

Chautauqua Institution Makes Changes For 2012 Season
